The administrative reduction of the electricity price is not a solution to the problems in the energy sector, Rosen Plevneliev said
The citizens participating in the discussion “Dialogue with the Citizens” under the aegis of President Rosen Plevneliev demanded that the consumers should freely choose the suppliers of electricity.
“I am not the person who will manage these processes because I have no legislative initiative. However, if we would like to conduct a reform in the energy sector, we need an independent regulator, which has no party affiliations, and consensus was reached on this topic. The chief of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission should be elected by parliament and I hope this amendment will be made,” Rosen Plevneliev commented.
The administrative reduction of the electricity price is not a solution to the problems, a competitive environment is needed, President emphasized who reiterated that he is against building a new nuclear power plant on the Belene platform. Rosen Plevneliev once again called for not stopping the work on the national program for energy efficiency. “There are 770,000 panel apartments and the citizens will have a profit worth 15 billion euros if the energy efficiency program is implemented and the necessary investment is one billion euros,” Rosen Plevneliev said.
“I sincerely hope the energy reform will be conducted so that an independent regulator is secured and the sector is liberalized so that the Bulgarian citizens will alone choose the electricity supplier,” the Head of state further added.
