Position of President Rosen Plevneliev on the situation in Turkey
President Rosen Plevneliev is concerned over the situation in the Republic of Turkey. The Head of State once again is voicing his support for all democratically elected institutions. The President is convinced that the response to violence should not be violence.
In the Head of State’s view, the Turkish authorities should take prompt actions to restore the rule of law and should not allow the country to be involved in an infinite spiral of repressions.
The massive arrests and dismissals of teachers, magistrates and journalists cause serious concern. The intention to limit citizens’ rights and freedoms only on suspicion causes worries.
President Rosen Plevneliev called on the Turkish authorities to abide by the law and by democratic values in their actions. Currently the time has come to take more democratic actions in response to the non-democratic.
