Rumen Radev after the UN Climate Action Summit: it is High Time that Bulgaria Joined Europe’s Coal Regions in Transition Initiative
Climate problems are no longer a matter of dispute between scholars, politicians and corporations. A huge protest and constructive energy is generated among the young people worldwide, who insist on decisive actions and changes, because their future belongs to them. This is what President Rumen Radev told Bulgarian journalists in New York, after taking part in the Climate Action Summit, which is held within the 74th regular session of the UN General Assembly. The Bulgarian Head of State is leading the delegation and is representing our country at the forum.
The President emphasized that the young people’s demands for changes are related to their desire to live in a world in which their future is not threatened by the enormous industrial pollution, the extinction of biodiversity, by the risk of whole countries disappearing as a result of global warming and the increase of the level of the world ocean. “We need actions,” the President said and noted that today’s summit is directed namely towards the proactive approach. Rumen Radev added that Bulgaria is making its contribution – our country is one of the EU member states which fulfills the commitments it has assumed.
The President yet again insisted on our country’s adopting a strategic approach regarding its coal-mining industry. “It is high time that Bulgaria joined Europe’s coal regions in transition initiative. This will guarantee the people’s future and will secure targeting investments and a transformation of these regions,” the Head of State said. Rumen Radev further emphasized that currently Bulgaria receives autonomy from the coal-mining industry because not only the raw materials, but also the technologies and the capacities are ours. Meanwhile it is clear that the trend towards creating conditions for reducing the emissions will continue, therefore the President called for developing a strategic vision.
