The Formation of a Joint Team for Building a Bulgarian-Chinese Innovations Hub in Sofia was Agreed upon at a Meeting Held at President Rumen Radev’s Office
The formation of a joint team for building a Bulgarian-Chinese innovations hub in Sofia by representatives of the institutions and scholarly circles in the two countries was agreed upon at a meeting held at President Rumen Radev’s office. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Bulgaria Dong Xiaojun, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Karina Angelieva, the Rector of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” Anastas Gerdzhikov, representatives of the Fund of Funds and scholarly circles.
The creation of a Bulgarian-Chinese innovations hub in Sofia was agreed upon during the Bulgarian Head of State’s visit to the People’s Republic of China and his meeting with President Xi Jinping in July 2019. The St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia is ready to provide a terrain for creating the hub, it emerged at the meeting.
The opportunities for the development of the project, which envisages the construction of an innovations campus specialized in two directions - information technologies and sciences of human health – were discussed at the meeting at 2 Dondukov street. President Rumen Radev and Ambassador Dong Xiaojun were unanimous that raising the relations between Bulgaria and China to the level of strategic partnership has a considerable potential for development in the area of innovations, scientific and development activity, high technologies. The creation of a Bulgarian-Chinese hub for scientific and technological research and innovations in Sofia will promote the transfer of technologies and knowledge between Europe and China and will boost the competitiveness of both countries, Rumen Radev further said.
