The highest state order is awarded for the diplomat’s significant contribution to the development of the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Ireland
Head of State Rumen Radev awarded the order of the Madara Horseman first degree to the Ambassador of Ireland to Bulgaria Michael Forbes at a ceremony held in the coat-of-arms hall at 2 Dondukov street. The President highlighted Ambassador Forbes’ personal contribution to the dynamic development of the relations between Bulgaria and Ireland.
In the current year Bulgaria and Ireland mark 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. “Although short in terms of history, these relations show a dynamic and upward trend of development,” Rumen Radev stressed. In his words, during his term in office Michael Forbes has established excellent and fruitful relations with Bulgarian institutions and has considerably contributed to Bulgaria’s preparation for membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The Head of State also emphasized Ambassador Forbes’ contribution to the development of the cultural ties between the two countries. The large number of literary, musical events and exhibitions have provided the Bulgarian public the opportunity to get acquainted with Ireland’s rich cultural heritage.
“I sincerely hope that your stay in Bulgaria has been fruitful, that you have come to know better the ancient history of our proud people and that you have enjoyed pleasant moments of friendship you will long remember and that you have experienced professional satisfaction,” the President said.
Michael Forbes said the Madara Horseman order was special. “This order marks the achievements in the past four years and I take pride in it. I am proud of the fact that we have developed the relations between Bulgaria and Ireland,” the diplomat noted. “I know that the Madara Horseman will take me back to Bulgaria so that I can once again see your incredible rose valleys,” Michael Forbes further said.
