Head of State Rumen Radev talks on the phone with Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis
President Rumen Radev held a telephone conversation with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic. The two discussed bilateral relations and topical issues on the European agenda in the light of the upcoming European Council meeting in Brussels.
The talk focussed on the accelerated construction of the Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria, the improved connectivity between the two countries through the opening of the new BCCP "Rudozem-Xanthi", and other issues of common interest. The Bulgarian Head of State and the Greek Prime Minister reaffirmed their countries' preparedness to work in close partnership to enhance stability and security in the region.
Rumen Radev expressed Bulgaria's position on the EU enlargement process. The European integration of the Republic of North Macedonia is in the interest of both Bulgaria and the region, but it requires political will to resolve the outstanding issues in an open dialogue between Sofia and Skopje, and not through incessant efforts to achieve an external pressure on this country. According to Radev, this is the only way the EU will not import unsettled problems, European values will be protected and Bulgaria's south-western neighbour will tread a clear path to its full European integration.
