Presidents Radev and Iohannis discuss energy connectivity and the prospect of Bulgaria and Romania joining Schengen
President Rumen Radev and his Romanian opposite number Klaus Iohannis discussed over the phone the energy, transport and economic connectivity in the region, as well as the prospects of Bulgaria and Romania joining Schengen.
The possibility of expanding natural gas supplies to South-eastern Europe after the commissioning of the interconnector between Bulgaria and Greece in early October this year was the main focus of the conversation. The two agreed that improving energy connectivity and cooperation in this area between Bulgaria and Romania is of prime importance not only for the two countries but also for the region.
Radev and Iohannis also discussed the prospects for Bulgaria and Romania's likely forthcoming accession to the Schengen area, which will contribute to strengthening security in Southeast Europe and within the EU.
