Head of State: Expanding connectivity between Bulgaria and Romania is important for the economic exchange of the whole region
This September's decision to build a third bridge over the Danube linking Bulgaria and Romania, reached between the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and to continue work on the remaining connectivity projects through new bridges are important steps towards improving the economic environment in Southeast Europe. Expanding connectivity in various areas between Bulgaria and Romania, including joint efforts to maintain navigation on the Danube, will encourage investors and is important for economic exchanges throughout the region. This is what President Rumen Radev said at a working session with Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca in Sofia. The two held talks ahead of the launch of the IGB commercial operations ceremony.
In 2021, bilateral trade reached EUR 6.5 billion and, according to the head of State, this does not exhaust the potential of the economic partnership between Bulgaria and Romania.
The two concurred that Bulgaria and Romania's accession to Schengen is a step towards strengthening regional security and stability.
