Rumen Radev: Improving energy connectivity in Southeast Europe is key to tackling the economic and social crisis
Improving energy connectivity in Southeast Europe is key to tackling the economic and social crisis, President Rumen Radev said at today´s meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Jeffrey Pyatt. His visit to Bulgaria is part of a regional tour that also includes Turkey and Romania.
The countries of the region need to pool their efforts for faster implementation of the joint projects expanding the oil, gas and electricity transmission infrastructure so as to prevent energy shortages, inflation and an exacerbation of the economic crisis, Rumen Radev said. The sides concurred that the launch of commercial operations of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector ensures real diversification not just for Bulgaria but for the region as well. In this context, the President highlighted the need of continuity of natural gas supplies so that the requirements of all countries are met.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed the prospects for deepening cooperation between Bulgaria and the US in the development and application of new technologies in the energy sector and in building a green economy.
