President Rumen Radev Holds a Call with Israeli Counterpart
President Rumen Radev held a telephone conversation with the President of the State of Israel Isaac Herzog. The two heads of state concurred on the significant prospects for the advancement of relations between Bulgaria and Israel, raised to a strategic level, in areas of mutual interest such as the economy, energy, investment, tourism, education and security.
Radev and Herzog were unanimous that the historical friendship between the two peoples, cemented by the unprecedented act of rescuing the Bulgarian Jews during World War II, constitutes a solid fundament for the overall development of bilateral ties. This special relationship is even more important in the current regional and global dynamics, providing a reliable shield against all encroachments on historical memory and truth, and against negative tendencies of hate speech, xenophobia and the contemporary forms of anti-Semitism, the two heads of state pointed out.
Radev briefed his Israeli counterpart on the National Programme of specific events and initiatives to mark the 80th anniversary of the salvation of Bulgarian Jews during World War II implemented this year under the patronage of the Bulgarian head of state. Rumen Radev extended an invitation to Isaac Herzog to visit this country later this year, and the visit of the President of the State of Israel to Bulgaria will also contribute to the subsequent deepening of the top-level political dialogue.
