Rumen Radev: Notre-Dame Is a Symbol of European Culture, History and Traditions and Its Successful restoration Embodies Europe's Ability to Overcome Crises
The future of United Europe is unthinkable without respect and preservation of the Christian and cultural heritage of the Old Continent, the President tells the media in Paris
Notre-Dame of Paris is a symbol of European culture, history and tradition and the successful and particularly impressive restoration of the cathedral epitomises Europe's ability to overcome crises. This is what Head of State Rumen Radev told journalists in the French capital, where, at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron, he took part in the opening ceremony of the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral. Rumen Radev is accompanied by his wife Desislava Radeva.
The Head of State stressed that the future of a united Europe is unthinkable without respect and preservation of the Christian and cultural heritage of the Old Continent. Part of this European heritage is the protection that Europe gives to the rights and freedoms of its citizens. In this context, President Radev pointed out that his visit to France has another purpose beyond symbolism and stressed that on Monday in Strasbourg, at the initiative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset, the two will hold a meeting. We will discuss the role of Europe's oldest political organisation to guarantee and defend human rights, democracy and the rule of law in European countries, which in our region is still a challenge, Radev said.
