Head of State: The Reforms Bulgaria Is Undertaking to Join the OECD Are as Significant as Membership Itself
The reforms Bulgaria is undertaking to join the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) are as significant for our country as membership itself. This is what President Rumen Radev said at a meeting with OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann. The two held talks today within the Delphi Economic Forum.
President Radev stressed that Bulgaria's accession to the OECD is a key foreign policy goal for our country, which all responsible institutions are working consistently to achieve. Bulgaria has already completed 11 out of the 25 OECD accession reviews and is working towards the successful completion of the remaining ones by the end of the year.
For his part, Secretary General Cormann said that he shared the assessment of Bulgaria's good progress and noted that all three EU member states applying for OECD membership have the opportunity to finalise their reviews by the end of the year. He confirmed that the OECD Secretariat would continue to support the applicant countries within its capacity.
During the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the dynamics of the world and a general assessment was expressed that the tariff war, which is escalating by the day, will inevitably have social and economic consequences.
